after this long hiatus (which will likely continue after this message) and with the start of 4th decade of my life looming in the not-so-distant future, i keep wondering where all the people i have met during my life (and somehow lost touch of in the process) are know and what they are doing.

i can't stop feeling that i am my own time capsule and that bits of my have been buried when i parted company with people that in little ways shaped the person i am today. luckily, there have been people that resurfaced after years of being absent and the old connection was still there, so i guess a blast from the past is an accurate expression.

mais uma vez, o aviso. se pensam ir ver este filme ao cinema, não leiam o resto do post...

"a mighty heart" é um filme que conta a história de Daniel Pearl, um jornalista do Wall Street Journal que foi raptado em 2002 no Paquistão por fundamentalistas islâmicos. após semanas de cativeiro, foi decapitado pelos seus captores. este é, sem dúvida, um filme estranho. e a estranheza começa desde logo pelo título, porque se há coisa que este filme tem muito pouco é "heart". só quase no final do filme transparecem emoções da mulher de Pearl, interpretada por Angelina Jolie. até se conhecer o desfecho do rapto, o filme é um retrato frio duma situação trágica. um pouco como as notícias dos telejornais e jornais do presente. todos os dias se vêem e se lêem atrocidades nas notícias que, dada a frequência a que somos expostos a tais cenários, não nos transmitem todas as emoções por detrás da história e, pior que isso, não fazem com que sintamos empatia.

é tudo muito triste e trágico, mas desde que seja como os acidentes de viação que, como toda a gente sabe, só acontecem aos outros, é algo que não fica na memória, não faz verter lágrimas nem reflectir sobre a situação actual do mundo. este filme será um pouco assim. talvez não seja um elogio, mas "a mighty heart" vê-se como se vê um noticiário todos os dias. é uma peça de jornalismo no grande ecrã, que tenta mostrar um ponto de vista, mantendo a imparcialidade e reservando o juízo moral para o espectador.

“you just have to find the one that is Happy and ask him to change. that is the most logical solution. until then, i cannot help you, dear sir. and now, it’s time for lunch.” with that, Civil Servant rapidly closed the blinds of the registry booth and quickly disappeared in the maze of corridors and doors. off to another take away lunch in the loneliness (he would have phrased it as peace and quiet, or even meditative quietness, if he had any poetic bone in his body) of the local park. lonely sushi, lonely burger, lonely pizza, lonely chinese food and lonely vegetarian. those were the equivalent terms to the more normal monday, tuesday, wednesday, thursday and friday that people tend to use to define the five working days in the 7-day week.

“and exactly how am i supposed to find this so-called one that is Happy? i thought this would be easy and straightforward…” mumbled Troubled Soul. he sulkily stepped off of the registry office (now completely devoid of life, like every single public building seems to become at around this time. as if a gigantic vacuum sucked all of the almost intelligent life inside, hid it for an hour or two or three and then magically brought it back to the exact same place they were sitting in earlier…) and started walking along the street.
at the same time, the skies seemed to share his worries and started crying. heavily. and with added fireworks that came in the form of thunderstorms. it seems that, at times, the skies can be very sensitive towards human feelings. either that or it was just another unfortunate coincidence in this rather eventful day.
weary of the ancient sayings that warn people not to take cover under trees, Troubled Soul decided to continue his walk down the road. just when approximately 70% of his body was soaked in the tears that poured from the skies, also known as cats-and-dogs-kind-of-rain, an idea flashed in his brain. in hindsight, it could have brought about a tragedy because it’s common knowledge that ideas that flash in someone’s brain always (but really always) look like electric bulbs and that electricity and water are a bit like water and oil and don’t mix too well.

leaving behind these considerations and getting back to the point of this story, Troubled Soul had an idea that would leave him a step closer to achieve what he so enthusiastically proclaimed when he first got up that day. “i just need to find a telephone booth. i can easily find the one that is Happy in the telephone book, get his address and just drop by.” he thought. little did he know that, in that part of town, there was only one telephone booth and that he was walking in the opposite direction. he eventually got there. but, by then, he was 96% soaked…

“why, i’d like to be Happy!” replied Troubled Soul.

“what kind of problem, my dear sir? is it not possible for me to be Happy?” inquired Troubled Soul.
“besides the obvious problems that arise from the bureaucratic process that is the changing of one’s name, we already have one…”
“one what?”
“one Happy. you’ll have to choose another name, i’m afraid.” Civil Servant solemnly announced, while thinking to himself that he was, as usual, conducting his work in a remarkably professional manner. maybe it was time to ask for a raise or, even better, more responsibility.
“is there anything i can do about it?”, asked Troubled Soul.
“let me think for a second…”
actually, several minutes elapsed before Civil Servant had a reply for Troubled Soul. but, in his opinion, it was the most brilliant, simple and incredibly logical solution for the problem at hand.
“well, after pondering on your rather peculiar situation, i think i can give you my expert opinion…”

se há coisa que me faz sentir mal comigo mesmo, é o facto de não ter na minha posse a discografia dos senhores que editaram este álbum no longínquo ano de 1971.
o que isto prova é que, afinal, em 1971 não houve só desastres (cujo expoente máximo é o meu irmão...), pois sempre viu a luz do dia o "meddle" dos pink floyd. tanto um como outro são como o vinho do porto. é preciso deixá-los maturar e não ligar às primeiras impressões.
o que dizer deste álbum? não há adjectivos suficientes para qualificar a música dos pink floyd e a revolução que operaram na música, trazendo uma teatralidade que se materializou no "the wall". apesar de não ser dos álbuns mais conhecidos dos pink floyd, mantém a tradição das guitarras e melodias hipnotizantes. o ponto alto deste álbum é, sem dúvida, a última faixa "echoes" que demonstra como deveriam ser todas as músicas com mais de 20 minutos. ainda por cima, tive o privilégio de ouvi-la pela primeira vez em vinil...

à atenção dos senhores que estão por detrás desta pérola televisiva, que tal um concurso em que se mate mesmo uma pessoa em directo? é que já só falta mesmo isso... posso até propôr títulos: (i) big killer; (ii) a bela e o psicopata com tendências homicidas que se ficar muito tempo acordado é capaz de fazer mesmo uma coisinha má.

em alternativa, um concurso para os "criativos" da produtora televisiva, no qual o vencedor ganha um cérebro...

hoje vou inventar-te uma vida. criar-te a partir da costela de sonho. à imagem e semelhança daquilo que apenas vive no imaginário nocturno. hoje vou dar-te um passado, uma personalidade, um emprego, desejos, medos. tornar-te humana. nem que seja apenas nos meus pensamentos.

hoje vou dar-te um nome, uma família e um local de nascimento. desenhar-te um percurso escolar e progressão curricular, criar uma história médica, sem complicações de maior que não as duma infância feliz. hoje povoo a tua face com os olhos mais brilhantes que consigo imaginar, sarapinto com sardas as tuas maçãs do rosto (maçãs do rosto e não malares ou zigomáticos pois esses não transmitem a doçura que transportam) e humedeço os teus lábios.

hoje escrevo a nossa história. guardada nos compêndios do passado, repetida vezes e vezes sem conta, com outros nomes que não os nossos. tristão e isolda. romeu e julieta. mas sem a tragédia associada aos tempos passados. o sofrimento que contém provém do passado solitário e não do futuro em comum. porque o amor não é isso.

hoje dou-te uma vida. invento uma situação e local banais que servem de pano de fundo para o nosso encontro casual. para a troca de olhares que inevitavelmente acontece. tratando-se duma obra de ficção, não existem pausas, hesitações ou timidez. depressa há sorrisos, depressa há uma ligação que vai para além das palavras que atravessam o espaço que separa os nossos corpos. tratando-se duma obra de ficção, a cronologia pouco interessa. o tempo demora muito pouco a passar. não consegue sequer acompanhar o passo dos sentimentos que voam e arrancam os corpos da sua natural inércia.

hoje vou inventar-te uma vida. vou dar-te o que sou e receber o que és. vou desenhar uma história em comum, do princípio ao fim. do primeiro ao último beijo, passando pelo momento em que nos tocámos pela primeira vez. em que sentimos a pele a retroceder, receosa. mas nem ela foi capaz de conter o desejo e cedo se dispersou por dois corpos.

hoje crio-te a partir do nada. hoje dou-me um propósito para viver.

finalmente começa a ver-se a luz ao fundo do túnel do "1% inspiration, 99% perspiration" no qual tenho estado a trabalhar há muito mais tempo do que devia. e o problema é que agora vem a parte pior.

* - uma nota breve acerca do título antes que me perguntem se vou ser pai ou coisa do género: é só porque o que está quase quase (até já o cheiro...) a acontecer já devia ter acontecido há, pelo menos, 9 meses, quiçá (sempre quis escrever isto num post...) mesmo um ano.
